SOARING EAGLES
Who are the Soaring Eagles?

The Detachment 157 Soaring Eagles are the second largest AFROTC detachment in the nation. As a completely cadet-led detachment, the responsibility of training and leading underclassmen cadets falls to the corps of upperclassmen. This gives the upperclassmen valuable leadership and organizational experience which will be a great asset to them on active duty.
Your career in AFROTC begins as a cadet enrolled in the General Military Course (GMC). Here, you will learn the basics of military service such as drill and ceremonies, proper customs and courtesies, uniform wear, and basic leadership skills. The culminating event for the GMC is Field Training, which is a two-week evaluation of the skills you learned over the past two years.
Upon completion of Field Training, you will graduate to the Professional Officer Course (POC). Here, your leadership skills will be refined as you either help with training the new GMC or support the operations of the cadet wing. The emphasis here is developing and refining the leadership and organizational skills necessary to be successful Air Force officers.
Cadets at Detachment 157 have numerous opportunities to get real-world experience with the active duty Air Force, including several base visits per semester, visits from alumni, and an opportunity to shadow Air Force officers after field training.
